Bulbophyllum carunculatum v. sulawesi

Okay, so this is my Bulb. carunculatum v. sulawesi, on of the many Bulbos from Clouds. Since this was growing three separate growths in very different directions, I decided to divide and repot.

Here are all three divisions after I unpotted and got all the media out and divided. The one of the left is the one I am keeping, and the other two are up for trade.

From what I have gathered on the internet and various other sources, Bulb. carunculatum v. sulawesi is a clumping, sequential stinker with yellow blooms and a warty, blood-red lip, with flowers similar in shape to species such as echinolabium. Bulbophyllum dentiferum

Okay, so this repotting was kind of spur of the moment. I was just in my little piece of paradise, and I picked up this 'chid and took it to my 'repotting station,' that is, the kitchen counter. This is another one from Cloud's that I suspected was two separate plants, and my suspicions were correct, so I didn't do any dividing. This Bulbo is definitely a shallow rooter, so it is best to either grow it in a shallow pan, or in the case of the one I am going to trade, the one in the brown pot, fill a good portion with styrofoam peanuts.

Dividing, Remounting and Potting, Oh My!

Did you know I just love the look of mounted orchids? The Brassavola Grand Stars '#1' you see mounted was the first orchid I ever mounted, so I didn't really get it on properly. Because of this, each new growth decided to go further and further away from the mount, and they actually started to turn around and send new growths away from the mount. Because of this, I decided to unmount the Brassavola, and divide and pot it up.

I was just going to make it two pieces, as it split way in the back, but because the roots were really tangled, I had to cut the back portion off, which left me with three four p'bulb pieces.

I potted them into CHC, and put a thin layer of sphag on top just to help with new roots. Come spring, I can sell or trade two of the divisions.

Here is a quick shot of the crazy roots that were on this thing, and this was after I trimmed a bunch so I could fit it on the mount.

Here is a piece that wouldn't really fit on to the mount, so I cut it off and potted it separately. I will trade it come spring.

And finally, here is everything afterwards, all nicely mounted and potted up. The Bulbo conformed perfectly to the mount, which made it SO easy to mount!

Bulbophyllum Worayuth White Fang

   Wow, finally, my last Bulbo. This Bulb. (lepidum x medusae) is another one I suspect is actually two plants in one pot. This is one I am looking forward to seeing in bloom, so I hope it blooms soon!

Bulbophyllum Pranom Prutpongse

   From Cloud's, Bulb. (sanguineopunctatum x bicolor) is another one of the 10 I got. This one is going to be slightly annoying, as I would prefer to keep it in one piece when I repot it, but since it is growing in two seperate direction, I am going to divide it come spring, which I will then be able to trade a piece.

Bulbophyllum macraei

   Of the 10 Bulbos I got from Cloud's, this Bulb. macraei, was the only one in spike. The non-smelly blooms were a about an 1 3/8" long, and lasted for about a week. Shortly after blooming, the newest lead sent out a new growth that ended up rotting, but thankfully the previous growth has sent out a new lead that made it past the place where the other one rotted. I really like the shape of this one's leaves!

Bulbophyllum (lepidum x annandalei)

   Another one from Cloud's, and I am suspicious that there is actually two separate 'chids in this pot, as following the p'bulbs backwards doesn't seem to add up. I think this one is also a NBS, so I could get blooms this year or next. You can't see as well in the pictures compared to real life, but the leaves have a very neat reddish tinge to them, which makes it quite interesting to look at!

Bulbophyllum Meen Legend Jewel

   Another one from Cloud's, Bulbo. (lasiochilum x bicolor). This one's rhizome has been getting longer each growth, and I actually like the looks of it. I might simply change the medium with this one for now, and let the next leads ramble around. I could also mount this one, and then let it scramble on that. The possibly fully developed lead on the left doesn't show any signs of blooming, but it could also be a winter bloomer. I guess I will see when the next one matures.

Bulbophyllum carunculatum v. sulawesi

   Yet another Bulbo from my Cloud's binge. This Bulb. carunculatum v.sulawesi, which had lovely, green foliage when I got it, promptly spotted themselves, and are now quite ugly. This plant has three new leads growing, which is just one of the reasons I love Cloud's so much, their plants are just incredibly healthy! I am hoping one of the three new growths bloom, as it is supposed to be a sequential stinker, and I have threatened to shake one of my stinky Bulbos over my family if they bother me! (Apparently for the smelly Bulbos, they release their smell when their hinged lips move!)

Bulbophyllum claptonense

   Another Bulbo from my Cloud's binge. This one has also made a new, larger growth, so I am hoping it blooms this winter also. The new leaf was a tad floppy, so I staked it up. Thankfully there is very little distance between the p'bulbs, and the small distance is filled in with the p'bulb itself. Since I didn't want the new growth to send its' roots outside of the pot, I had simply up-potted it into a larger pot and just filled in the new space with sphag, and let me tell you, this thing had a CRAZY root system, with tons of giant, thick, green roots!

Bulbophyllum dentiferum

   This is one of the twelve 'chids I bought at one time from Cloud's Orchids. It has almost finished the two new growths it had when I got it, so I hope it blooms this winter, which is when I think it is supposed to bloom. It is the most rambly Bulbo I got, with up to 5'' between some of the p'bulbs. I would really love to mount this, but I would have to make a hardware cloth tube mount for it. Maybe in the spring!

Two little Backbulbs

   Okay, so this was a little experiment of mine. A little while ago, I divided my Bulb. nymphpolitanum, and a tiny two p'bulb piece fell off. Since I really didn't want to throw it out, and it had a good amount of roots, I decided to mount it to the outside of this little pot. I filled the inside with some sphag to keep it a little more moist. Also, a shorter while back, while I was mounting my C. forbesii, this two p'bulb piece fell off, so I stuck it in the sphag inside the pot. So far, the little Bulbo has actually started a new growth, and the Catt has survived thus far, so I will see if it grows anything.

Bulbophyllum nymphopolitanum

   Here is one of the awesome Bulbos I got from Cloud's Orchids, Bulb. nymphopolitanum ('MileHigh' x 'Halcyon'). This was all one plant, but I decided to divide it, and this is what I ended up with. The plant on the far left is what I am keeping, one is already promised to a trade, so that leaves the other two that I am selling or can trade.
